Equine Analytical Chemistry

The Equine Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (EACL) is located in the Kenneth L. Maddy Laboratory on the UC Davis Campus.

The mission of the EACL is two-fold:

Toxicology

The CAHFS Toxicology service offers state of the art technologies to detect natural and synthetic toxicants, in addition to measuring electrolyte, mineral and vitamin levels. The Toxicology service is widely regarded as one of the most capable and well-equipped veterinary toxicology laboratories in the world. It is the only veterinary laboratory that is a member of Food and Drug Administration’s Food Emergency Response Network (FERN).

CAHFS offers:

Pathology

CAHFS pathology service provides comprehensive necropsy, histopathology and immunohistochemistry testing with in depth expertise in avian, livestock and equine pathology. Necropsy work on poultry and livestock species is subsidized to encourage submission of animals in order to rapidly detect foreign, emerging diseases and toxic events which can have a severe impact on agriculture and human health.

CAHFS offers:

Serology/Immunology

The CAHFS Serology/Immunology service offers a variety of test methods to evaluate antibody responses to infectious agents or vaccination. Tests are available to determine exposure to diseases, monitor herd or flock health or meet requirements for sales, show, interstate movement and export.

CAHFS offers:

Viral Molecular Diagnostics

The CAHFS Viral Molecular Diagnostic service analyzes unique genetic markers to rapidly identify viruses.  This allows CAHFS to detect common infectious agents, foreign animal diseases and other threats to animal and human health.

CAHFS offers:
