CAHFS pathology service provides comprehensive necropsy, histopathology and immunohistochemistry testing with in depth expertise in avian, livestock and equine pathology. Necropsy work on poultry and livestock species is subsidized to encourage submission of animals in order to rapidly detect foreign, emerging diseases and toxic events which can have a severe impact on agriculture and human health.

CAHFS offers:

  • American College of Veterinary Pathologists board certified pathologists and American College of Poultry Veterinarians board certified diagnosticians
  • Foreign animal disease trained diagnosticians at each laboratory site
  • Necropsy of all livestock, equine and avian species at three sites and only poultry and other avian necropsies at Turlock
  • Aquaculture services at San Bernardino
  • Comprehensive reports including gross pathology examination, histopathology and other testing as needed
  • Pathology services for every horse that dies at a California racetrack in support of the California Horse Racing Board’s commitment to the health and well-being of racehorses
  • Pathology services for monitoring wildlife health for the CA Department of Fish and Wildlife
  • Immunohistochemistry testing and new test development for a wide variety of infectious agents
  • USDA approved scrapie disease testing
